AIUEO - AEON mall experience map
We noticed that everyone at UWC ISAK Japan has been to the mall before. However, most of us had our eyes on the items we wanted to buy and kept ourselves occupied all the time at the mall and could not pay considerable attention to small details at all. Therefore we made an experience map that can give everyone a quick glimpse of other things in the mall - like people who go there, how the furniture is arranged, or how the vibes at the mall feel like!
At first, the designer team had to spend time discussing what would be the best way to present the information effectively on the map.
Meanwhile, our information team got to go to AEON mall to conduct their observations, fitting into 5 categories with initials like the Japanese alphabet: a, i , u, e, o which stands for activity, interactions, users, environment and objects.
We had 2 weeks in total to finish our map.
We wanted to keep the original position of the shops in the map, so the shape with black lining was precisely scaled.
To make it easier for people to understand, we included these following features:
- color-coded lining for activity, interactions, environment, objects, users
- a website of instructions
- a voice-narrated mp3 to guide you through the map easily
- hand-drawn graphics that summarizes the information
- 2 big spaces in the down left corner and top right corner to present interesting things we found out and what we think can be improved
We couldn't actually accomplish this map at first; our draft was rather uninformative and disorganized.
Through the process of making this map, we could learn more about:
- team-work and discussion before hand
- using time constraint as a strength - or as a tool to generate ideas quickly
- how we can find room for improvement
- how to improve our models and check if it satisfies our needs.
