Empathy - Leading with others
Empathy is about trying to understand other people more by asking questions and making statements: HOW MIGHT WE.
General HMW: How might we enhance well-being for our constituents?
Split each class into three teams: pregnancy and motherhood (before and after birth), elderly, people with physical impairment (sight and hearing)
DO: students over the course of two weeks need to take turns to experience what this is like (each person needs to do at least for 2 whole days)
ENGAGE: students come up with basic interview questions (surface and in depth) and engage in at least one interview
DEFINE: Come up with insights
Other HMW: Take a look at OpenIDEO to find out other challenges that have already been tackled for your constituents.
Based on your research, what are the more targeted HMWs that you can draw?
In this chapter, what we did was Wearing a tool kit of disabled people and pregnant women to understand them better.
After having the physical understanding of how it feels to have a disability or to be pregnant, we interview people who are actually in this situation to get a better insight from them
For pregnant group - we interviewed Mrs. Laura Earwood, who at the time was pregnant with a baby.
For physical impairment group, we interviewed old people from Seizan Sou to ask them how they feel about their body pains.
After this, we had time to brainstorm about some innovative products to help these people improve on their physical impairment and have a better experience living when having to suffer from these problems.
