Leading with others
This course offers a chance for students to practice the 5-step design-thinking process, as illustrated below:
The beginning of the course started of with a very simple task: creating an ideal backpack for your classmate with the time limit of 5 minutes. We then tried out making DIY backpacks with cardboard to visually emphasize our products better to our classmates and discuss again with each other to find out if there is something that can still be improved.
The next exercise was designing a perfect evening routine for a person that we have not talked much to. This is pretty difficult because firstly, you don't understand the person very well, and secondly, we all have to follow strictly to the schedule for one week. This exercise requires a lot of communication and planning between two people as well as patience and understanding. After one week, we met up again to check out on each other's progress and suggest improvements for the schedule.
These two simple exercises have brought us closer to mastering the skills required for complete 5-step design thinking process and form a solid base for further improvement in the course.
