Final CAS Reflection

1. Teaching at Sapa Hope Center (Service) (Aug 3 - Aug 10)

- LO4: Show commitment and perseverance in CAS

(still working towards it during the summer, find external opportunities)

- LO6: engage with issues of global importance

understand structural violence in access to education

participate to reduce inequality

- LO7: Recognize and consider the ethics of choices and actions

do not treat ethnic minority groups like they know less than us

respect their ways of learning (reluctance to perform alone, but willing to do so in groups)

2. Volunteer at Sex Education camp for teenagers (Creativity, Service)

Prep: June 1 - June 30

(July 13-15)

- LO1: identify my strengths and develop areas for growth

strength:

+ ideating activities to make difficult concepts understandable for young age group

(theater, inequality walk)

+ encouraging participation

growth:

- difficulty getting everyone's attention at once

-LO3: Demonstrate how to initiate and plan a CAS experience

+worked with 5 other high school students to plan the camp

+ divide up the work into teams - finance, marketing, content

+ ask for help from professionals - undergraduate student to explain birth control, pregnancy safety measures...

+ ask for participants' feedback

- LO5: Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively

+ let others shout for children's attention

+ manage small group discussions, let others lead big groups

+ participate in ideation and observe others lead the activities, then comment on the performance -> everyone can improve

3. Diplomacy Simulation (Creativity)

June 30

- LO2: Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process

+ new topic: Global Counterfeit Trade with imaginary scenarios, imaginary countries.

inexperienced team mates: never participated in Diplomacy simulation

-> teaching others about MUN procedures,

-> learning from other teams about techniques for arguments (asking challenging questions, hypothetical negative questions)

-> creative solutions to a new topic (incentives, students exchange for education...)

4. E-right trip to Thailand (Creativity, Service)

June 3-9

- LO3: Demonstrate how to initiate and plan a CAS experience

book the flight, plan the itinerary, check legal documents to travel

prepare the content

- LO4: Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS

Continued to keep in touch with the school so that the experience in June is smooth, we all know the plans

strength:

attentive to details, better to mark papers, summarize delegates's speech to score

short energy span in an office-like environment -> switch activities frequently

6. Badminton competitive player (September 15th - present)

- LO2: Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills

worst player - practice more than required
